Respecting
God’s creation
As a Christian community, we are called to be mindful of the impact our actions have on the planet in our care. St Barnabas endorses the A Rocha UK Eco Survey, which is shaping our journey towards a more positive relationship with our environment.

What we are doing
Our eco strategy is guided by A Rocha UK’s awarding framework (2024).
As a congregation, we call on our members to care for God’s creation in our collective and individual actions
We support environmental charities, including Friends of the Earth, and we have twinned our toilets
We encourage reuse through our jumble sales and when we provide refreshments
We participate in environmental initiatives, including No Mow May
Where possible, we seek to purchase eco friendly and/or Fairtrade products
We consider our wildlife when we maintain our land
Where possible, we procure suppliers based on their ethical and/or environmentally friendly credentials
We pray for our planet and those affected by environmental change
What you can do
We are all called to care for God’s creation. Here are some tips that you may want to consider if you have not done so already.
Pray for the planet and those affected by human-led environmental change
Get involved in Christian Aid’s Climate Change Campaign
Support Friends of the Earth, or other similar charities
Take A Rocha UK’s Green Quiz and/or calculate your individual carbon footprint
If you have a lawn, join us in No Mow May
Look for the Fairtrade label, as well as other ecolabels, on your products, and use food items that are LOAF (Locally grown, Organic, Animal-friendly, Fairtrade)
Bank with an ethical provider and choose an energy company that offers green energy options
Look for more sustainable and/less impactful alternatives for the way you travel and shop
If you are able, fully insulate your home and look for ways to save energy
